Gecko-Inspired Adhesive Tape

Ever wonder how geckos can stick to any surface upside down or even sideways?  The answer to that is easy, it because they are sticky. This is true but there is a lot of science behind it, geckos and others like them have thousands of little hairs on their feet and their legs called Satea and at each end of the hairs there are little suction like flat surfaces called spatula.

Scientists in Germany have mimicked the geckos ability to stick to walls using a re-usable adhesive tape. This tape is  so strong that a 20x 20 cm square of it is able to support a adults weight. Unlike other tapes this tape is re-usable meaning that you can just rip it off and reuse it and amazingly enough it doesn't leave any marks behind. What surprised me the most is that this tape can be used underwater.

Even though scientist have known the secret behind sticking to suraces finding the material that can meet this challenge has been a challenge. The biggest difficulty for the scientists were creating little hairs like the ones the geckos have that is able to stick and hold to ANY surface.

The only drawback from releasing this monster tape to shops is first it is still in experimenting stages and the scientist may not be able to find a suitable price. But if it does come out i sure would be the first to buy!
